Read Across America
Monday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m., Zablocki Elementary will throw a free birthday party for Dr. Seuss in honor of Read Across America Day, announced Dr. Patricia Walia, school principal. All Zablocki students and families are encouraged to attend.
According to Dr. Walia, the celebration features activities based off of the most popular Dr. Seuss books, including a visit from The Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Free cake and ice cream highlight the festivities.
“This is a night to remind students and parents alike of the free family fun found in the pages of a book,” says Mr. McLure, a Kindergarten teacher at the school. “With the country in recession, reading isn’t just for the classroom anymore.”
“Dr. Seuss is my favorite author,” declares Aiyanna Walker, a third grader and avid reader. “We have a lot of his books at our house.”
Adrian Walker, a first grader, had a different outlook. “I once tried green eggs and ham, but they look much yummier in the book.”
